At the Dance Studio, you can learn Lindy Hop, a partner dance with roots in 1920s and 30s Harlem! Fun, energetic, cool, sweaty, musical… Lindy Hop is a multifaceted dance where rhythm and feeling are important. Lindy hop, or Jitterbug, as the dance was also called, is danced to wonderful swing music and is based on musicality, creativity, and the joy of movement.

Swing dancing is based on leading and following. At the intermediate level of Lindy Hop, the connection with your dance partner is central. We practice dancing both fast and slow. You expand your repertoire with Charleston moves and variations on swing-outs. You also learn more traditional jazz steps. In the course, we dance both socially and build choreography/sequences. The key words for the intermediate course are playfulness and interaction. Over time, dancers develop more room for improvisation and their own personal expression.

NOTE! In this course, you will learn social Lindy hop, not acrobatics with throws and flips.

For whom? The intermediate level is for those who have completed at least a beginner’s course. You can take the intermediate course multiple times as the material varies from term to term, and the teacher does their best to challenge everyone at their own level. You don’t need to sign up with a partner. Age: from 15 years.

Number of sessions 8 meetings starting January 26, with breaks on February 16 and 23, the last session will be on March 30.

Things to consider when registering for Lindy Hop courses and workshops
By signing up as a pair (as a leader and a follower), you have priority for spots as there are usually fewer leaders than followers. During the courses, we switch dance partners, which is appreciated once you’ve tried it and leads to faster and better learning.

PAIRS – Submit one registration per person and indicate your partner’s name in the “message” field.
SINGLES – We give single registrants spots in courses as even pairs become available. Indicate in the “message” field if you want to be a leader, follower, or either.

About the instructor
Jenny Ammilon, who leads the courses, is appreciated for her clear pedagogy, joy of dancing, and ability to help individual participants at their own level. She has danced Lindy hop and other swing dances for many years and has taught at West Coast Jitterbugs in Gothenburg.
