Sit Back on the Couch and Read our Management Plan.

A World Heritage site with global reach

This is the introduction headline in our brand new management plan. It extends until 2030, and we have many important tasks to tackle. We hope you’ll join us along the way!

You can read the introduction here, but otherwise click directly ahead, browse and read! We wish you pleasant reading.

“Around us, no matter where in the world we live, we are surrounded by cultural and natural heritage, places created by humans or the earth. Important reminders of what humanity is capable of, which in turn are surrounded by or are part of environments that testify to the forces of our planet. Some of these places, environments, and objects are particularly valuable as they uniquely tell the shared history of humanity and the earth. For this reason, they should also be protected with joint efforts so that future generations can experience them. Grimeton Radio Station in Varberg, Halland County, Sweden, which testifies to how humanity once began to communicate wirelessly, is one of these. A world heritage site, important for everyone. The typical radio station of the time was completed in 1924 and has since been developed to better meet its era’s needs for wireless communication, which has meant that the station has conveyed contacts and shortened distances between people for over a hundred years. A mission that took on new proportions when the site was included on Unesco’s World Heritage List in 2004. Through increased understanding of our shared heritage, the distance between us humans can be bridged.”

With the honor, joy, and pride that comes with a world heritage designation, there also follows a great and long-term responsibility locally, regionally, and nationally. A responsibility that includes a large number of actors and spans many areas; from monitoring and ensuring that the site’s values are not threatened due to lack of maintenance or exploitation to creating interest and respect for the site among today’s and tomorrow’s generations, while the world heritage should contribute to a sustainable and more peaceful world. Here, the Grimeton World Heritage Foundation, which has been given the direct task of managing the radio station, has a special responsibility to work to ensure a balance between preserving, using, and developing the site. This reflects our time’s view on long-term management.

The management plan is the strategic document that shows the way for ourselves, other actors, and future generations. How we, in this changing time, where we are constantly faced with new challenges, should manage Grimeton Radio Station 2022–2030 so that it remains a living world heritage appreciated far beyond Sweden’s borders. // Grimeton 2022″
