A valuable collaboration for both parties is the one between the World Heritage Site Grimeton Radio Station and Alexander – Grimeton Veteran Radio’s Friends, which is a non-profit association formed in 1996. The association’s purpose is to preserve, document, and bring to life the transmitting equipment at the old radio station in Grimeton. The association was formed by former employees of the radio station as well as people interested in industrial and cultural history to preserve and revitalize the older technology. The main driving force for the association has been to preserve the old longwave transmitter. This work was initially carried out in close cooperation with, among others, Telia, the County Administrative Board of Halland, and Varberg Municipality.
The World Heritage Grimeton Foundation provides the environment and allows association members to be responsible for the maintenance and care of the unique longwave transmitter, which today is the only remaining one of its kind in the world and is also in working condition. Members often gather and take the “evening shift” at the radio station. In addition to maintenance, they also dedicate themselves to documenting the technology to preserve knowledge and transfer their expertise to future generations. In study circles and working groups, the knowledge for operating and maintaining transmitters and machines is passed on. The Friends Association Alexander also has great value in its social community. The association welcomes you to become a member and support the activities actively as well as passively.
