Experience the wings of history where they truly resonate! On July 5, Grimeton Radio Station World Heritage Site and the Alexander Association GVV invite you to Alexanderson Day – a unique and vibrant family day filled with world-class technology, culture, and experiences.

During the day, the radio station comes to life with the legendary Alexanderson Alternator (SAQ), the only one of its kind in the world still in operation. Meet dedicated people passionate about our World Heritage Site, see the machine in operation, and learn the story of how Grimeton Radio Station has been part of global communication for over a hundred years.

 

We do this both on-site and over the airwaves through

⚙️ SAQ Broadcasts at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM (SWE/ENG). Startup begins 35 minutes before broadcast. NOTE! Limited seating and a special ticket are required; no livestreaming via YouTube will be available.

📢 Amateur radio station SK6SAQ is open 10:00 AM–4:00 PM where you can learn more about amateur radio, telegraphy, and how this hobby contributes to society.

🛠️ The Workshop is open 11:00 AM–4:00 PM, at the World Heritage Site’s place for crafts and creative activities where all ages can learn to punch on this day.

“From demolition threat to a World Heritage Site” with Ola Hernvall 1:00–1:45 PM (SV)

🚶‍♀️Walking tour between stations 11:30 AM–12:15 PM (SV) and 1:15–2:00 PM (ENG), where knowledgeable guides share the story of the radio station, why radio and World Heritage Sites are important, and how you can become part of the community at the station.

🍲 The Dining Hall at the World Heritage Site’s visitor center serves in true worker spirit, breakfast 9:00–11:00 AM, lunch 11:30 AM–2:00 PM and refreshments all day

 

Registration and tickets

All activities except Transmission with SAQ are included in the regular Admission Ticket, which can be purchased via Admission Tickets – Grimeton, or on-site at the Visitor Center when you arrive. If you wish to attend one of the Transmissions where the number of seats is limited, we recommend purchasing the ticket Transmitter Start – Grimeton in advance.
