A revitalizing activity at the radio station is the Grimeton Academy Summer Camp’s workout sessions! This summer, former police officer Hanna Arnell will lead workout sessions where fitness enthusiasts of all ages and shapes can experience the World Heritage site at a different energy level and from different perspectives than usual. Hanna will take on both the Obstacle Course Control and the new Walkway, the grassy areas in front of the Transmission Hall, and the ground below the breathtakingly tall Tower 1. There, you might feel like David meeting Goliath.
Ahead of the summer, we check in with Hanna Arnell, meet her in our interview here:
Who are you, Hanna?
- I am Hanna, born in Ljungsarp near Tranemo, then grew up in Skephult and moved to Varberg when I got a job as a police officer here. I worked as that until I felt I just had to spread my wings and work with my hobby, training and leading workout sessions. I live in Träslöv, east of Varberg towards Grimeton, where I also hold training sessions in a barn when I’m not outdoors around the city. My family consists of my husband and our two children. I prefer to spend my free time traveling – and TRAINING!
So you lead training sessions, mostly outdoors, why is that?
- I love being out in nature. I feel so good outside. I like the recovery and the varying opportunities different terrains provide. When I see landscapes and surroundings, thoughts come to mind about how I could use the challenges to train strength, agility, and running, among other things. I did orienteering as a child, and that’s probably where it started. Being challenged on nature’s terms is what inspires me the most. I also like Swimrun and have cycled a lot of MTB.
What are your hopes for the Grimeton Academy Summer Camp?
- Oh, it’s going to be so fun to entice participants to both train and give them workout experiences in the cool surroundings that the World Heritage site offers. They will get to experience the otherwise quite tranquil World Heritage site at a different energy level – and see it from a variety of perspectives provided when we take over the area in different ways every Wednesday. Those who come to Summer Camp will get to do functional exercises for the whole body with equipment and their own body. The Obstacle Course Control here at the World Heritage site is one of many activities at Grimeton Academy where you can test your abilities to see if you would have measured up as a mast worker at the radio station. We also use it occasionally in the summer workout sessions.
Is it something for everyone or do you have to be well-trained?
- Summer Camp has something for everyone as you can adjust how much you want to push yourself. Even children are welcome, and if they’re not participating in the session, they can be on the obstacle course during the time, or have an ice cream at Kjell’s Café in the visitor center. But I hope everyone wants to join in!
Last question for you Hanna, you say you like to travel… Which World Heritage sites have you visited so far?
- It’s probably quite a few, even if you might not know they were World Heritage sites. But I have visited the Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania, Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, Yosemite National Park in America, and Halong Bay in Vietnam. So it feels absolutely fantastic to now take on a World Heritage site with full energy this summer!
Thank you, Hanna, for talking with us. See you this summer!
