A unique voice that encompasses love, pain, sorrow, and joy. A voice with a story to tell. Few in Sweden have missed the story of Doug Seegers – the homeless street musician who was “discovered” by Swedish artists Jill Johnson and Magnus Carlson during the filming of the SVT program Jill’s Veranda in Nashville.
Doug performed his song Going Down to the River, a song that touched the artists so deeply that they offered him the opportunity to record it in Johnny Cash’s legendary studio and to build much of the program around himself, his song, and background.
The episode became the most viewed on SVT Play, and Going Down to the River topped the iTunes chart in Sweden. The debut album of the same name, featuring Emmylou Harris, sold gold – over 20,000 copies.
Since then, Doug Seegers has regularly toured in Sweden, both with his band and as a guest artist.
On September 13, Doug Seegers, together with his band, will give a unique performance at the equally unique Recordia Studios in Varberg.
As support, we meet the local musician Vargen with his band. The self-titled debut album with original songs in English was released in 2023. The concert video “Recordia Live” was released alongside the album, and both releases received rave reviews in several of the international indie press’s leading music magazines. Behind the artist name Vargen is Reine Johansson, a Halland-based actor and musician with roots in the rock and punk scene.
