World Heritage music from Greece with musicians from three countries: Greece, Norway, and Sweden. During the summer tour of 2025, you can listen to and experience rebetiko. Pireus with Oluf Dimitri recreates rebetiko, which has been on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage since December 2017. The music group Pireus wants to celebrate 100 years of communication with this concert.

This year’s tour includes music partly from Greece’s domestic rebetiko style “Piraeus rebetiko”, i.e., rebetiko from Athens’ port city Piraeus, but also music from the Greek refugees who came from Turkish Izmir in the early 1920s. This tradition is called “Smyrna rebetiko” or “Smyrneika”

Tuesday, July 29 at 7:00 PM

The concert lasts approximately 2 hours. Location: World Heritage Site Grimeton Visitor Center.

Feel free to come earlier and enjoy something delicious with a Greek touch in the Dining Hall before the concert begins.

The instrumentation in Piraeus rebetiko includes bouzouki, baglama, guitar, and lighter percussion, while the instrumentation in Smyrna rebetiko includes violin, Arabic lute, tzouras, and slightly heavier percussion.
