Cow Release at the radio station
On the second Saturday in May, you can join the first public cow release in a hundred years here at the radio station. Cows are important ‘cow-panions’ here. They keep the landscape and the antenna park open and are essential for radio communications to work. They keep the vegetation down and where they trample around they work the soil. As a result, a number of endangered species live and grow here in the fields. This is thanks to the World Heritage tenants, the farmers around the World Heritage site, who look after the enclosures and release their animals here every year – and have done so at the radio station for 100 years now.
During the anniversary year #100yearsofcommuncation, we are happy that both LRF Himledalen and the tenants at Öxnamossa Gård and Alsgårds Lantbruk invite you to a celebration with cow release and calf dance! They will release their animals in the pasture this May day – and LRF Himledalen has collected colostrum so that calf dancing can be tasted for those who want. It’s impossible to predict how much there will be, so it’s first come, first served. But our orange food truck Matbyssjan is also open and there are also other goodies for the coffee-hungry.
What is happening?
- At least three cow-releases between 10 a.m. and 12 noon (the exact time is up to the cows!)

Respect the cordons, please!
We would like to draw the attention of all visitors to carefully respect the area that may be entered by the audience, as Grimeton Radio Station is an active radio station and some areas are cordoned off.
Parking tips!
As we believe there are many who want to come to the first cow release of the century here, we also want to ask you all to either take the bike, or walk here, or park your car so the roads remain passable and safe past the radio station. If our parking lot is full, please park at Götriksskolan’s parking lot or at Grimeton IK’s area.
Free admission to the outdoor activities.
We together with LRF Himledalen, Öxnamossa Gård, Alsgårds lantbruk, LRF Ungdomen i Halland, Grimetons 4H/4H Halland, Bokexpeditionen UF and Josephine and the River Boys welcome you to a day when your legs are sparkling!
