Transmitter Hall
As the Alexanderson transmitter in Grimeton is the only one of its kind left in the world, this means that in Grimeton you can witness something that can’t be seen anywhere else. A unique experience to say the least. Not only is the transmitter system in the Transmitter Hall a testament to real engineering skill that is still fully functional today, more than 100 years after being installed, but the system is also an aesthetic masterpiece with an unparalleled wow factor.
Through information signs, objects and interactive stations, visitors can gain a real understanding of the technology. The information complements the magnificence of the transmitters and is layered to allow everyone from young children to technical experts to appreciate what is being shown and told. Try out some of the steps required to start up the Alexanderson transmitter or travel back to the time of the long and short waves.
The building has automatic door openers and an accessible toilet inside. Access to the Transmitter Hall is included in the entrance ticket to the World Heritage Site.

The Exhibition
People have always wanted to communicate with the world around them, always striving for higher speeds and greater distances. It was the need for a reliable, fast and stable connection between Sweden and North America that led to the construction of Grimeton Radio Station, shortly after the end of World War I. In the years that followed, the site became a center for communication, which is a role that it has retained. During the first years of operation of Grimeton Radio Station, each word resulted in a cost for the sender. Today, words flow through social media all over the world.
Now you can see this journey in the exhibition A World Heritage Site with Global Reach, which depicts in text, images and interactivity the role of the radio station through history, and its path toward future challenges – all in the service of communication. The fact that the Exhibition is set up in the radio station’s authentic garage also enhances the experience.
The premises are accessible, and have an automatic door opener. Access to the Exhibition is included in the entrance ticket to the World Heritage Site.
