The local nature conservation project “Natural Values in the Grimeton World Heritage Site” aims to complement the Grimeton World Heritage Site’s Care and Maintenance Plan with a more complete picture of the area’s natural values in order to preserve and develop them.
Grimeton Radio Station was built between 1922 and 1924. The facility required a large area of land, so 106.2 ha of pasture land was purchased from farmers. Since the radio station was put into operation, the area has been continuously grazed. This has created conditions for rich biodiversity. The Grimeton World Heritage Foundation manages the area’s cultural heritage, which largely consists of maintaining the complex 1920s facility. The main document for this work is the care and maintenance plan, where a few pages deal with the site’s natural values and how their protection and conservation will be managed. Knowledge about the species and habitats found within the area is limited, which increases the risk of natural values being destroyed during maintenance work.
The project is funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (LONA), the County Administrative Board of Halland, and Varberg Municipality and runs during the period 220519-241231.
