In early July, it will be exactly 20 years since UNESCO’s General Conference decided that Grimeton Radio Station from 1924 is so valuable that it should be inscribed on the World Heritage List to preserve its great universal values, comparable to the same status as ancient monuments and enormous natural formations worldwide. Now a whole week of festivities awaits.
We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to travel sustainably to us. You can take Hallandstrafiken’s Åkturen from Varberg. Or why not enjoy the delightful cycling route in the Visit Varberg app, which Varberg Municipality is now renaming to the World Heritage Route to highlight the radio station. The birthday of the World Heritage Site is the decision day at the General Conference in Suzhou, China, on July 2, 2004, but the registration with UNESCO was officially made on July 7, 2004. Therefore, we will have six days of World Heritage focus from July 2-7 at the Visitor Center, where everyone can sit down at a long table filled with colored pencils, paper, and inspirational images to come and paint their dream World Heritage Site, the most exciting World Heritage Site they have visited so far, or perhaps a place they think should be designated as a World Heritage Site.
