On World Opera Day, October 25, 2025, the Grimeton World Heritage Site will once again be visited by soprano Karin Dahlberg and pianist Bernt Wilhelmsson with a unique concert in the radio station’s transmitter hall. This time as a tribute to #100yearsofcommunication.
The program performed in Grimeton includes opera gems such as Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro”, Handel’s “Lascia ch’io pianga” and Purcell’s “Music for a while”, as well as sparkling operetta and musical gems. You are invited to music from Italy, England, Sweden, Germany and also washed by a long wave from America in Gershwin’s “Summertime”. Soprano Karin Dahlberg, born in Håcksvik and living in Varberg, has sung on several European stages such as the Berliner Philharmonie since her debut with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in 2004. In December 2025, she will be a soloist at Berwaldhallen with the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the 100-year-old Radio Choir in a concert broadcast on Sveriges Radio P2.
Karin was awarded the Varberg Municipality’s Honorary Plaque for Culture in 2023:
“For her artistry in the field of song and music.//With a voice that goes straight to the heart, she has become a leading figure in Varberg’s cultural life.”
Karin has a special connection to the radio station as her grandfather Hans Palmqvist was the station manager in Grimeton for 40 years. The concert will therefore be a grand and warmly personal encounter with both the music and these two great musicians in a different setting in the heart of the radio station, where communication has been the key word since 1924. Wilhelmsson At the piano accompanies none other than the fantastic pianist Bernt Wilhelmsson. He grew up on Orust and started playing piano and accordion as a nine-year-old. He made his debut as a soloist in Beethoven’s “Emperor Concerto” with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in 1997. Bernt frequently performs piano recitals and chamber music concerts, as well as working as an accompanist.
He has performed concerts in the Nordic countries, Scotland, France, USA, Argentina and Canada and during his concert visits recorded for music radio in Estonia and Latvia and on a number of occasions for Sveriges Radio P2. Since 2008, Bernt has been a lecturer in piano and chamber music at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg and often hired at the Gothenburg Opera as an orchestra pianist. Don’t miss this world-class concert experience at the 100-year-old radio station, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004!
