One hundred years ago, Grimeton Radio Station sent Sweden’s first wireless signal across the Atlantic. It marked the beginning of a new era. Today, we live in an era of constant connectivity, where movement and displacement are a natural part of our everyday lives and larger geopolitical landscapes. But what happens when languages and identities are transferred from one context to another? What is created and what is lost when borderlines are crossed? These are transformations and displacements that, in their winding ramifications, open up new experiences and relationships.
At the invitation of Art Inside Out, the artists have taken these questions and Grimeton’s various historical layers as a starting point for creating new site-specific artworks this spring. Together they form an exhibition that, like a wave, follows an untamed movement that contains philosophical, political and existential reflections. You can experience the works in different locations on the grounds of the radio station – Eric Magassa’s work is displayed in the large Broadcasting Hall in the main building and Einat Amir is presented in a bunker on the grounds built during the Second World War. On July 2, Emanuel Cederqvist’s exhibition of new photographs will open in the World Rooms gallery in the World Heritage Center.
I vågsvallet, presented by Art Inside Out in collaboration with Varberg Municipality and World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station, celebrates #100yearsofcommunition.
